A not-for-profit Community Interest Company bringing together women from migrant and ethnic minority backgrounds around healthy food, healthy families, and healthy lifestyles. Run by Somali women for women, we create safe spaces for connection, empowerment, and community building in Bristol.
Building Community Through Connection
Sports, activities, and shared experiences bring us together
Somali Kitchen began as a grassroots gathering of women sharing recipes and stories. Today, we've blossomed into Bristol's vibrant hub where culinary traditions and community support intertwine.
Founded by women who journeyed across continents, we stand as Bristol's only refugee-led organization celebrating the power of food to heal, unite, and transform lives.
We weave together culinary heritage and community support, creating spaces where refugee and migrant women find their voices, skills, and confidence. Our mission is to nurture belonging, resilience, and opportunity for all.
We are a sisterhood celebrating resilience through food. Our gatherings create spaces where recipes become stories and meals become bridges connecting cultures, traditions, and people around a shared table.
Experience Our WorkshopsLike seeds taking root, we nurture potential in every woman who joins us. Our kitchen becomes a garden where confidence grows and futures bloom.
Our tables overflow with more than food—they're alive with exchanged wisdom, cultural treasures, and the joy of giving what's uniquely yours.
In our kitchen, every faith, culture, and perspective finds a place of honor. Differences aren't merely tolerated—they're celebrated as essential ingredients.
Beyond physical shelter, we create emotional sanctuaries where vulnerability is met with compassion and every voice can speak its truth without fear.
We weave a tapestry of belonging through shared meals and stories, transforming strangers into sisters who stand together through all of life's seasons.
Food in our hands becomes medicine for body and spirit—a vehicle for healing generational wounds and nurturing dreams of what could be.

In Easton, we face challenges with the proliferation of fast food outlets around schools and the impact on our children's health. Somali Kitchen was born from a desire to offer healthier alternatives and preserve our food culture.
Our community members share powerful stories about the importance of creating safe spaces, promoting healthy eating, and celebrating our heritage. These voices drive our work.
I have children. I am worried about my children's life. I want them to be healthy, have a good life, good community. I don't like them eating bad food. I want my children to learn about healthy food.
— Community Mother
This is the start of something powerful. We've been wanting to change things in our community, and I think this is the start of that.
— Workshop Participant
It made me proud. This is very important for me to share my culture, and also my potential to my area. It was fantastic.
